Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Reelenz is made up of two major components – a long-lasting black hanger and a white reel with pre-wound twine.  You can buy the hangers and reels separately, meaning that only the reel with twine needs to be replaced at the end of season or whenever the twine runs out.

The black hanger is made from nylon for strength, longevity and durability. The replaceable reel and twine are made from polypropylene.

Reels are pre-wound with 25 meters (82 feet) or twine. Feedback from growers is that the 25m length is very economical as it can last through two to three 12-month crops.  It is also suitable for growers who prefer to grow for shorter periods, and they can get multiple crops from one reel.

We currently use PP twine on the reels and although the twine is made from UV stabilised PP, we strongly recommend that you do not re-use twine. Twine will gradually reduce in tensile strength due to exposure to UV, abrasion from use, knots tied and untied and exposure to chemicals, even if they are organic.  Repeat use of twine may even pose a risk of mould or spores from a previous crop.

Any crop that benefits from support and/or layering will also benefit from Reelenz.  The crops it is most commonly used for include tomatoes, capsicum. cucumbers, eggplant, cucurbits and flowers with a tall stem.
